President’s Corner

President’s Corner from Karen Lower

Welcome to the Summer edition of Health Care Management Association of Central New York newsletter. During this season, perhaps the pace of your life slows down a bit and you get to relax and refresh and reflect. I hope that is true for all of you and perhaps you will be enjoying this edition sitting on a beach somewhere or doing whatever you find is important for you to do to recharge. Here are a few things to reflect on.

Spreading Your Passion

Do you have a passion for a particular aspect of healthcare and the goals of ACHE? We are still looking for members to work with the Board to help with program planning, communications, outreach to early careerists and outreach to health care administration students. Since last time I mentioned this I am pleased to report I have had several people contact me at klower@cvph.org expressing their interest in one or more of these activities. There is still time to join the movement of helping to make our chapter more relevant and meaningful to our entire membership.

Sharpening Your Skills

Have you checked out the resources available to you through the ACHE national website recently? There is a wealth of information at your fingertips. Some of my favorites:

Publications by Health Administration Press: https://www.ache.org/Publications/

Career Resources: https://www.ache.org/newclub/career/career_development.cfm

Early Careerist Network: https://www.ache.org/mbership/ecn/ECN_Benefits_brochure.pdf

Sharing Your Challenges

In late summer and early fall there will be opportunities to connect face to face with your colleagues. Look for more information soon to come on these two events:

Networking in the Southern Tier at Arnot Health, Elmira, NY. –late August/early September

Annual HCMA meeting- Cooperstown, NY, September 24 and 25, 2015. This will include an educational offering of 6 ACHE face-to-face credits

Thank you for all you do and as always, please contact me with any questions, ideas, brainstorms or just to connect at klower@cvph.org.

Wishing you a happy, safe and wonderful summer!

Karen Lower
